Unpopular Opinions Book Tag

I wasn’t tagged by anyone to do the unpopular opinions tag (except if you count every person who said ‘and I tag YOU if you want to do it’ at the end of the video). I just find it so entertaining to see people answer these questions and to find out what they truly think about the books they read, that I decided to do it as well.
So here we go…

A popular book or series you didn’t like

As you probably noticed if you read my review, I didn’t like The Winner’s Curse at all. I didn’t like the characters, I didn’t like the plotline, it was just ugh.
Another book I really didn’t like was The Fifth Wave because I couldn’t connect with the characters and the switching POV’s were really confusing. (Also, if you want to see my little ‘the 5th wave’ rant just check out my goodreads review)

A popular book or series that everyone else seems to hate but you love

I loved both the Matched series and The Maze Runner series a lot. They were the first dystopian series I read and these books really wowed me. The Matched series was the series that got me into reading in the first place, so it holds a special place in my heart, and because of this it makes me sad to see so many people hating on it. I kind of understand it, though. I think that if I were to read these now, after reading so many other dystopian books, I wouldn’t like them as much.

A love triangle where the main character ended up with the person you did not want them to end up with or an OTP you don’t like

Usually, I’m okay with whatever the author comes up with, and I usually root for the couple the author wants me to root for, and that’s why I was okay with this couple initially. However, after thinking about it a lot more I’m really don’t like the Harry Potter couples. I really don’t think Ron and Hermione are a good couple, and I would’ve preffered Hermione and Harry together. I also wanted Luna and Neville to end up together, and I really thought this would happen, so I was heartbroken when it didn’t.

A popular book genre you hardly reach for

I hardly ever reach for mysteries/detectives. I love watching CSI or Criminal Minds, but when someone has to solve a murder in a book I’m just not interested. It’s either way too obvious, or you would never be able to guess who did it.
I also don’t really care for new adult. I tried it once (I read Confess by Colleen Hoover) but I just don’t like it. I don’t like how these books treat women and the relationships displayed in these books feel very unhealthy to me.

A popular or beloved character that you do not like

This is going to be another Harry Potter answer because I don’t like Snape. At all. I know he has this tragic backstory etc etc but to me he was just a bully. You can’t go make everyone else’s life hard just because your life was hard.

A popular author that you can’t seem to get into

I’d have to go with Colleen Hoover, since almost everyone I know LOVES her books and they’re all over bookstagram, but I just don’t like them. The relationships she writes about feel very unhealthy to me, I don’t like her characters and I think her writing style is okay, and not as good and amazing as everyone else says it is. But maybe it’s just me.

A popular book trope that you’re tired of seeing

There are a lot of tropes I don’t like, but here are a few:

  • Love traingles. I don’t think I’ve heard anyone say ‘ohhh I love love traingles’. It just feels so unrealistic.
  • Instalove. Please just give me a cute story of 2 people falling in love over time, and not one where a girl looks at a boy and thinks ‘omg I don’t know anything about him but I love him so much.’
  • The love cure. I’m so sick of reading about girls with a depression that is magically cured when they meet a guy.
  • The ‘blank’ character. I’ve read a lot of books lately where the character doesn’t have anything special; they look ‘normal’, don’t have any talents or interests, etc. This is just so boring.

A popular series that you have no interest in reading

I don’t want to read most of these books just because the number of books in the series and/or the lenght of the books intimidate me (TMI, GOT, etc.) and I just don’t care for the plot of the other books.

The saying goes “the book is always better than the movie”, but what movie or TV show adaptation do you prefer more than the book?

I don’t think I really have an answer to this. I hardly watch movies since they just don’t grab my attention and I’m easily distracted. Maybe Love, Rosie since I absolutely loved the movie and I don’t really care for the book? But that might just be because I love Sam and Lilly.

Tell me what some of your unpopular opinions are!

I one hundred per cent agree about Luna and Neville. It was set up for basically the whole final book that they'd end up together and then nothing? I was outraged to say the least. Ditto Draco and Astoria Greengrass. He's had a thing with Pansy Parkinson for the entire series, and then all of a sudden he's married his classmate's younger sister? Legitimately one of my biggest pet peeves about the series.
