July Wrap-Up

Guess who’s incredibly late with their wrap-up again? Yes, that’s right, me. The months go by so quickly and before I know it it’s the end of another month and I haven’t prepared anything. And last week was a very shitty mental health week for me so I didn’t really feel like writing anything. Anyway, let’s talk about what I was up to in July, shall we?

Well, the most important thing is that I graduated! I had my final exams  for both my English and history class in July, which I was terrified of, but I managed to do it! Of course this came with a few panic attacks, which wasn’t great at all, but honestly? It was worth it. I never thought I’d be able to do this but I did, and I’m incredibly happy about that.

I spend almost all of July studying, or stressing out about studying, or procrastinating by watching a TV show (I started watching Elementary and I love it??) or reading, so I don’t have much to tell you about. So, let’s just get to what I read in July.

Saints and Misfits by S.K. Ali (★★★★/5 stars) – Definitely hard to read at times, but I really enjoyed it. The author handled the topic of sexual assault wonderfully.
Down Among the Sticks and Bones by Seanan McGuire (★★★★★/5 stars) – Even better (and darker) than Every Heart a Doorway.
Like Water by Rebecca Podos (★★★★/5 stars) – I don’t think I’ve ever seen realer or rawer characters in a novel before. I loved this.
Chameleon Moon by RoAnna Sylver (★★★★★/5 stars) – A very hopeful dystopia. I fell in love with literally every single character. Here’s my review.
The Loneliest Girl in the Universe by Lauren James (★★★★★/5 stars) – Read this in one sitting. Loved the characters, the sci-fi elements, and the suspense. My review.

 

The Silver Chair by C.S. Lewis (★★★/5 stars) – Read this because I needed a very quick audiobook, but I was very underwhelmed.
Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh (★★★/5 stars) – It was an enjoyable read, but very meh overall.
Radio Silence by Alice Oseman (★★★★★/5 stars) – Why didn’t I pick this up sooner? It was so, so much better than I expected.
If I Was Your Girl by Meredith Russo (★★★★/5 stars) – I adored this book, and cried a lot multiple times.
The Emperor’s Riddle by Kat Zhang (★★★★/5 stars) – A fun and adventurous treasure hunt. I expected it to be a bit more fantastical, though.

Wild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore (★★★★★/5 stars) – The most gorgeous writing ever?? I’m still blown away.
The Tiger’s Watch by Julia Ember (★★★★★/5 stars) – I’m sure that this is going to be one of my new favorite series. I loved this so much.
But Not Up Here by RoAnna Sylver (★★★★/5 stars) – Raw, personal and emotional, but very comforting at the same time.
Love Letters to Nameless by Alex Casso (★★★★★/5 stars) – Reading this poetry collection made me feel like I was in love: I felt happy, giddy, and I couldn’t stop smiling.

I also managed to read quite a few graphic novels like Giant Days, The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, The Lumberjanes and Princeless, but I decided not to include them because this wrap up would be WAY too long otherwise, and I don’t have much to say about the graphic novels anyway. I really enjoyed them all!

I am currently reading Ms. Marvel volume 7, which arrived this morning and I simply couldn’t wait so I picked it up immediately, The Queen’s Game, which my friend Olivia Gifted to me and which I’m incredibly excited about, and The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue, which I’m listening to as an audiobook and am really liking so far.

So, that’s it for July! August is going to be a very stressful month for me but I really hope I’ll be able to read (and blog) a lot anyway.
