Seventeen Book Tag: Members Edition (original)

Hi everyone! As you might’ve seen on my blog last week, my friend Romie and I started a book tag series that combines our love for reading and the KPop group Seventeen. Last week we shared the first edition of this tag, the song edition, and this week we’re sharing the second edition, aka, the members edition! Coming up with fitting questions for all of the members was quite difficult, but we really hope we did them justice.

Jeonghan: a character that is an absolute angel

I am going to take this question way too literally and go with Angel from I Was Born For This by Alice Oseman. I Was Born For This is one of my all time favorite books, and Angel is one of my all time favorite characters. She’s so incredibly sweet, and is always there to help. Doesn’t matter if she knows you or not. Her name suits her very well.

Vernon: a biracial character that didn’t let society dictate their life

YES, I’m super excited about answering this question because it means that I get to do one of my favorite things, aka, hyping up a friend’s WIP! Romie (you know, the person who created this tag with me) is currently writing #MetallicPurpleProject and she actually let me read it! (And be the very unofficial editor of it, hehe.) I loved it a looooot and one of my favorite things about it was definitely the main character Estée, an incredible person who definitely fits this question. I really hope all of you will be able to read her story too, because she has a lot of incredibly important things to say.

The8: a character who likes tease the people they love

Both of the main characters in A Crown of Wishes by Roshani Chokshi, Gauri and Vikram, like to tease each other a lot. This book is filled with amazing world building and enchanting storytelling, but the banter between these two characters is what made this book so amazing for me.

Jun: a character that tries to act cool, but is actually a total goofball

It’s established pretty early on that Sunny from Sunny by Jason Reynolds is goofy. I mean, it’s in one of the first lines of the synopsis. He definitely tries to act cool, though, but it only makes him cuter. And it’s probably the reason why Sunny is my favorite book from the Track series, even though I really liked all of them.

Joshua: a book that’s set in LA

Let me admit something kind of embarrassing: I had to Google whether Hollywood was part of LA in order to include this book. I know that’s supposed to be common knowledge, but I don’t know anything about American geography. I know the names and places of most countries on the world map, but when it comes to American states and cities I’m absolutely hopeless.

Anyway, Everything Leads to You by Nina LaCour is about a girl who’s trying to make it as a set designer in Hollywood. I read this book back in 2016 and I really loved it, and I really want to reread it to see whether I still love it as much.

Woozi: a character that seems adorable, but could kill you if they had the chance

I had to think about this question for quite a long time before I realized that this could totally fit Colton from the Timekeeper Trilogy by Tara Sim. Colton is the absolute sweetest and he sometimes reminds me of a golden retriever puppy, but he won’t hesitate to hurt you if you try to harm anyone he loves. Especially when that person is Danny.

Hoshi: a character that deserves more credit than they’re getting

I recently completed the Dare Mighty Things duology by Heather Kaczynski, a duology about a space competition, aliens and trying to save the world, and I really enjoyed it. I can’t tell you a lot about this character and why I think they deserve more credit because I don’t want to spoil you, but Mitzako (I’m not actually sure if I’m writing her name right because I listened to the audiobooks but let’s go with it) deserves better! She’s very much like a maternal figure, taking care of all of the other characters and making sure that they don’t do anything foolish. I love her.

DK: a book or character that always puts a huge smile on your face

Let’s Talk About Love by Claire Kann is definitely one of those books that hurt to read, and for once I don’t mean that in a “this book absolutely devastated me”- kind of way. No, quite the opposite. This book made me so happy that I couldn’t help but grin while reading it, and I grinned so much during certain scenes that my face physically started hurting. But it was totally worth it. This book has one of my favorite romances I’ve ever read, and even thinking about it makes me smile.

Seungkwan: a character that’s incredibly Extra

I know this isn’t technically a book but a comic, but it wouldn’t be my blog if I didn’t include a few comics. Whenever I think of the word Extra I think of Ripley from Lumberjanes. Cute, lovely Ripley, always bouncing around and getting into all these amazing adventures while wanting to wear big, sparkly pink dresses. I can totally imagine her and Seungkwan being friends, acting out scenes from their favorite soap opera’s together. (OH NO YASMIN)

Dino: a character you’d like to adopt and be your younger sibling

Every single time I read Girl Out of Water by Laura Silverman, I immediately want to adopt Parker and Nash, the cute little twin cousins that the main character Anise has to babysit for the summer. They’re absolutely adorable and I just love them a lot. But also, let’s be real for a second here. I like my peace and quiet, I wouldn’t last a day with these two. But still. Maybe giving up my peace and quiet for them would be worth it. And they could learn me how to skate, which would be fun!

S.Coups: favorite father figure in a book

The relationship between Clara and her father in The Way You Make Me Feel by Maurene Goo is one of the best father-daughter relationships I’ve ever read. There’s such a perfect mixture between banter and serious parenting moments, and I truly feel like Maurene Goo is the queen of writing amazing father figures, because I also adored the father-daughter relationship in I Believe in a Thing Called Love. Plus, the fact that the dad in this book owns a Korean-Brazilian foodtruck called KoBra… what’s not to love?

Wonwoo: a character you’d want to start a book club with

I would love to start a book club with both Aled and Frances from Radio Silence by Alice Oseman. Not only are they two of my all time favorite characters and I’d love to start a book club just as an excuse to hang out with them, but they’re also very interesting and intelligent people and I’d love to hear what they’d have to say about the books we’re reading. Plus, they’re also super creative so I can totally see us creating all these different creative projects in relation to the stories/characters we read about.

Mingyu: a character that is universally loved

Every time I thought I had a character picked out for this I’d remember one review I read saying about how they didn’t like them and I’d go in search of another character. This went on for an embarrassingly long amount of time (seriously, I’m never very perfectionistic so why do I think this is the right amount to start?) until I remembered the existence of Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli. This book is pretty popular and very well-loved, and I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone say they don’t like Simon.

Also, this reminded me that I still haven’t watched Love, Simon yet. What am I doing with my life?
