TTT: 2016 Releases I Totally Meant To Read But Forgot About

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt was ‘Top Ten 2016 Releases I Meant To Read But Didn’t Get To (But TOTALLY plan to)’and I had quite a bit of trouble with it. Finding 2016 releases that I planned to read but didn’t wasn’t a problem at all, because there were many. However, finding books in that list that I was still interested in was a lot harder. And sadly, some of these books are only on this list because I own a physical copy of them, and I feel like I have to read them.

So, let’s start discussing the first one, The Unexpected Everything, because the reason why I don’t want to read it is a bit petty, namely: the pre-order fiasco. And if you haven’t heard of it yet, let me fill you in on what happened.
At the start of 2016 there was this pre-order promo going on for Morgan Matson’s latest book where you had to go to the publishers website, show them proof that you pre-ordered the book, fill in your address, and then you’d get a surprise in the mail. I was over the moon, because I loved Morgan Matson, and this was the first pre-order thing I’ve ever seen that wasn’t US only. Fast forward to 2017, and I still haven’t gotten anything in the mail. No one has. And the publisher and Morgan Matson herself don’t respond to any questions. This left a bit of a bitter feeling to the book, and I’m not even sure if I want to read it anymore. I mean, there are so many other great contemporaries out there.

From the books on this list, I’m still the most excited about Of Fire and Stars, and the only reason why I haven’t gotten to it yet is because I’m still waiting for a paperback copy. I’m also kind of kicking myself for not having picked up Furthermore and Frost Like Night yet, because they were some of my most anticipated releases of 2016. Ah, you know what? Let me make a promise to you here that I will have read these within the coming 6 months. Please hold me accountable to that.

So, what are some of the books you meant to get to in 2016 but didn’t?

I’ve read Highly Illogical Behaviour and I really enjoyed it! I hope you enjoy it when you get around to reading it! 😀

I missed out on reading Something in Between too. I’ve requested it from my library but the line for it is soooo long — which makes me happy because so many people are after a book with a Filipino MC!

A book I was supposed to read but didn’t for me was Crooked Kingdom. It’s sitting on my shelf right now but I have all these library books to read first! I’ll get to it eventually!

I always feel a bit iffy when it comes to anxiety books, but I’ve heard a lot of good things, and the fact that you really enjoyed it makes me really want to pick it up!
Ahh I wish my library carried English YA books, but it’s really great that a lot of people want to read it! That makes me so happy!
I haven’t even read Six of Crows, yet :/ I feel like I should read Shadow and Bone first, but I’m not that excited about the grisha trilogy for some reason.

        Hi Laura!
I totally see where you are coming from. I feel like anxiety is a kind of thing that people either hit or miss with the representation, and there are SO many cliches about it that it hardly feels genuine.

HIB is awesome and you won’t be let down by its rep! My only qualm was the ending which felt abrupt, but otherwise, it’s fantastic!

I’ve read SoC but not the Grisha trilogy and I’ve been told that it’s pretty easy to pick up on the terminology and stuff. I’m not excited for the Grisha series either! So, we’re on the same boat. ❤

Heartless was a fave of mine from last year. I had mediocre expectations because of all the HYPE, but it exceeded all of those. It wasn’t as action packed as her series, but it was adorable and interesting!! I hope you love it!! And I also want to read Furthermore and Something in Between.

I really want to read The Rose & The Dagger, but that’s another I haven’t gotten around to reading yet. Ugh, so many books! 🙂 Still, if we didn’t have books to put on our TBR, we’d run out of reading material, right?

I have Heartless and The Rose and the Dagger on my list as well 🙂 And I did read and enjoy Highly Illogical Behavior, Of Fire and Stars and A Torch Against The Night. Hope you’ll get to all these in 2017!

Apparently with every list I check out, I remember another book I’d forgotten to get to last year.

Oh well I haven’t read any of those, but they are all beautiful (on the outside) and clearly amazing from what I’ve heard. I am actually interested in some of the ones that are not on my TTT, but I am just so uncertain if they are my genre. Great post though!

Oh my goodness hello! I just stumbled upon your blog via Broke and the Bookish, only to find not only do you have a fantastic list of books for your TTT (I highly recommend Of Fire and Stars, Passenger, and A Torch Against the Night), but your website is in Dutch! Mijn moeder is half Nederlands, dus ik kan ook een beetje Nederlands spreken! (I live in the US) In fact, I love Kerstin Gier’s books, and read both Emerald Green and Dream On in Dutch before they came out in English because I just couldn’t wait!
So happy to have discovered your fantastic blog! Leuk om je te ontmoeten! ~Gwen (My TTT: http://bit.ly/2icZADI)

I read The Unexpected Everything and loved it! But that sucks about the pre-order thing. I would have been so upset as well! Especially if no one answers for it! I didn’t know about this but I hope that if one day you feel up for reading it you have a great time 🙂

From your list, I’m so looking forward to reading A Torch Against the Night and Of Fire and Stars. This last one I’m supposed to get soon from my Owlcrate. I live in Ecuador, so who knows when it’ll arrive XD Meanwhile I just wait!

I’m glad to hear you loved it! I’m sure I’ll like it when I read it because I’ve loved all of her books so far, but I don’t *want* to like it because of the pre-order thing, if that makes sense, haha.
Ahh, living in The Netherlands I totally get the ‘having to wait for ages for things to arrive’-thing. Good luck with waiting! At least you know there’s a pretty awesome book on it’s way to you (:

Quite a few here I’ve meant to read…..or even start! I have the first Sabaa Tahir and Sara Raasch books to read, just haven’t gotten to them yet. The Rose & The Dagger looks interesting and I’m way behind with Morgan Matson books! Ugh, there are just too many to ever get through in a lifetime lol.
